A soldier is in a critical condition after allegedly being attacked by a group of protesters at the entrance to the military police headquarters. He and another soldier were shot in the head.

An investigation found no evidence that the protest was a false flag attack, officials said Tuesday.

They said they also found no signs of drugs or weapons or other evidence of gang activity.

Protest organizer and former lawmaker Thaksin Shinawatra of the Justice Party called the incident "absolutely reprehensible," with military officials saying they were still investigating.

Military police spokesman Col. Prapunt Thawat also told Reuters the incident began when a group of about 150 people, who wanted to take over the post from police, tried to storm the police office.

Sungkul Minh Win, 32, an army recruiter who lives in Thailand, described the attack as "horrible."
