Police recruit dies in western hwy crash, mother told

A father was killed in an early morning crash involving a car and his passenger on Highway 15 near Stoney River, according to Western Australia Police.

Paramedics were called to the West Adelaide Highway just after 11:30am to reports that the driver of a grey Chrysler 300 was driving at a speed of 120km/h when the other car hit him, a police spokeswoman said.

A woman in the vehicle was later taken to hospital but died from her injuries, which were not life-threatening.

The car was later found abandoned about 200 metres away, and the driver's body found a kilometre down the road.

Police have not yet announced charges against the passenger.

Mr Vasta, 43, was the son of a retired police officer who was employed by a local company.

He was a father of two who lived in the inner-Sydney suburb of Greenacre.
