NEW YORK (AP) — After years of treatment, the former Harvard star basketball player who starred for more than 40 years finally was free from the debilitating disease.

Lisee Danvers, 52, a beloved Boston area native who played at the University of Maryland, died Wednesday night at a Boston hospital after battling ALS in Boston and Washington, D.C.

As far as fans know, Danvers spent more than 12 years battling the disease before his death. He made his professional debut with the Nets in 1988-89, then went on to become a two-time All-Star, playing for the Brooklyn Nets, Washington Bullets and Washington Wizards, before the NBA decided to remove the word "Lisee" in its uniform.

He was nam우리카지노ed an NBA All-Star, was a 10-time Most Valuable Player, and spent his final 25 regular-season and postseason games with the Nets.

Danvers was honored by the Boston Celtics on Thursday at the team's rookie-sophomore dinner, with the Celtics saying he "definitely changed the entire atmosphere, as an all-around great guy."

"He was a guy that got it done," Boston teammate Isaiah Thomas said of Danvers' career, with whom he was teammates and friends in Chicago, Boston and elsewhere throughout his playing career. "He was a guy that just wanted to win, and just put on an attitude and go out there and have fun with the players."

"For years, he's had some pretty tough battles that he had to have that were difficult at times," Celtics forward Gordon Hayward said. "He had to take every day to get his spirit back. I think he played a lot in his 80s. He's a good guy. He's a great guy."

Rosenfeld, who had battled ALS since November 2016, and his wife, who was with him at the time and was in thegospelhitz room during the last words as they departed the hospital, said Danvers' family is "absolutely devastated for the last t바카라사이트ime" by the news.

"It's been such a long road. Lisee has had a heck of a life. He's got a lovely family right now. They'll miss their friend very much," Rosenfeld said.
